Gen Z catches a lot of flack, but after being around dozens of college-age actors and crew for 12+ hour days lately... I'm happy (and very tired) to share that these kids are delightful.

Not that I didn't know... I have two sons who are smart, sweet, and interesting. And their friends have mostly been the same. But it's been nice being around other kids their age who aren't as the misconceptions claim - disconnected, anti-social, and having no attention span.

(Background: my son and his friends are filming their second feature-length movie, and a location fell through so they had to move to our house πŸ˜…)

No one is getting paid, yet they stay determined and full of fresh ideas scene after scene. They're inclusive, helpful, collaborative, funny, and so very encouraging of each other.

Between scenes, they're snacking, chatting, or bursting into song. The most I've seen them with their phones is when they're taking selfies with our jumbo cat.

I made a taco bar lunch one day, and one boy said he almost wore his Chipotle shirt but he accidentally dropped it on the floor that morning. Another boy asked what difference that made, and he said, "Oh, because germs are my OCD." Instantly, my inner mama bear was ready to intervene if someone laughed at him, but there was nothing but acceptance.

So if, like most of our readers, you're the parent of a small child, it's all related. I think our best chance at raising humans who are empathetic, kind, responsible, and creative is to be present and engaged with them from early on πŸ’š

The Thankful Turtle Meditation

World Turtle Day is May 23. It's a great day to go outside with your child and look for turtles, read books about them, and talk about protecting their habitats. You can also end the day with the thankful turtle and practice gratitude with your little one.

Read it here or find it in the PDF library.

Support Young Independent Filmmakers

The kids I mentioned are all donating their time to this project, and they've just created a fundraiser to help cover costumes, food, and equipment upgrades. If you're inclined to support young artists, you can donate to their GoFundMe here.

As always, if you have anything you'd like us to cover, just reply. We answer every email.

Much love πŸ’š
